Shade Information Page

For collectors of shade and other types of British stamps, covers and postal history it can be difficult to judge realistic valuations. What should you pay for good shade items? What will shade items fetch if you decide to sell them?

When this web page was rendered we carried out a quick search of some current online auctions to display a sample of live shade ongoing sales. These shade listings will end soon so, if especially interested in any particular item, you should access the full shade search results via the Shade Online Auctions page.

Here is a selection of current shade auctions due to end soon...

Do bear in mind that the prices you see above only represent the current bids and not the final sale price. When deciding what you should pay for shade items or what their value might be, then it is the final prices realised in auctions that act as a useful guide to collectors.

It is often more useful to check the the fixed price shade listings where you can buy the item immediately without entering in to a bidding process. When searching fixed price offers it is also usually a good idea to view the shade items most recently listed rather than those about to end as, it stands to reason, the best offers will sell quickly!

Further valuation help can be otained from stamp magazines and online or offline dealer pricelists but do remember that, like catalogues, retail prices usually refer to typical items and do not reflect the special qualities that may make a stamp or cover more valuable. It can also be surprising to see the difference in prices that some dealers publish in lists and on websites compared to the stamps they list to sell in auctions. Very often the prices are more competitive when paying marketplace websites to sell their stock items by auction!
