Rare, Specialised & Out of Print GB Stamp & Philatelic Publications
So it was with some pleasure I discovered the online store of HH Sales today.
Browsing the store I found more than 200 publications for sale at fair prices and covering subjects from many parts of the world and the British Commonwealth with many tightly focused on very specialised or "difficult" subjects.
By way of British philatelic or postal history interest the store was offering many items at the time of writing, including:
POST HORSE TICKETS (Their Historical Background, Purpose and Use) a privately published 24 page paperback by H. Dagnall and John H. Chandler dating from 1988.
LONDON FANCY GEOMETRIC POSTMARKS (Early Combined Daters and Obliterators of 1880 - 1909) a useful essay and detailed classification of these attractive and elusive postmarks by Stanley F. Cohen.
THE 1935 SILVER JUBILEE ISSUE OF GREAT BRITAIN by Alastair Hacket (1982) which offers a well illustrated and detailed study of the King Geirge V Jubilee issue with detailed coverage of essays, production, errors and varieties, booklets, overprints, quantities printed, etc.
ISLANDS POSTAL HISTORY SERIES: NO. 9 - MULL, IONA, COLL and TIREE by James Mackay and published by the author back in 1979. This was the 9th book in James Mackay's series about the postal history of Scottish Islands. This particular volume spotlights the Inner Hebridean islands of Mull, Iona, Coll, and Tiree. The postal history of the islands is described in detail and known postal markings are illustrated.
PENNY POSTS OF EDINBURGH AND DISTRICT 1773 - 1839 by Bruce Auckland & J J Bonar. Offers a detailed study of Peter Williamson's semi-official Penny Post scheme 1773-1793 and the later official scheme (1793-1839). With comprehensive listing of the Receiving Houses and illustrations of postmarks.
THE POSTS of SEVENOAKS in KENT An Account of the Handling and Transportation of the Written Communication of Sevenoaks District (Westerham to Wrotham, Biggin Hill to Edenbridge) on the Road to Rye and Hastings - by Archie Donald. Described as a "monumental, in depth study" of the postal history of this specific area of Kent. A beautifully produced and illustrated work covering every conceivable aspect of the history of the posts in Sevenoaks, including exhaustive appendices that list all the Post Offices and their postmarks.
These were just a small selection of the GB philatelic and UK postal history publications on offer by the HH Sales Philatelic Publications online store and I've no doubt their stock will be changing frequently after I've published this signpost article. I for one will certainly be visiting their store frequently to see what new gems are on offer.
