In an article by Jonathan Liew published today the author cites many different sources as evidence of the increased interest in UK stamps.

The Royal Philatelic Society has apparently said it is experienceing "a significant rise in membership" and the internet auction site eBay has reported a 30 per cent rise in stamp sales in just the past month! According to the Telegraph piece, industry insiders are saying that the increased popularity is a result of the recession and the relatively inexpensive pastime is gaining favour among youngsters for the first time in decades replicating the upturn experienced in other crafts and traditional home based hobbies such as knitting in recent years.
This is much needed good news for the hundreds of small stamp and philately clubs in the UK who need to attract new members. Perhaps stamp sellers on eBay would do well to include the keyword "Starter" in their listings aimed at new stamp and FDC collectors!
