Collect British Postmarks
Mail has been postmarked in every British town of any consequence for well over three hundred years which makes for an enormous topic to study. Neverthless Collect British Postmarks claims to represent almost every such postmark either with a specific entry or under "umbrella entries" and every postmark they cover comes with a guide to value.
Once hooked on a specific postmark type or location it then becomes the individuals challenge to build an expert knowledge and refer to specialist publications if they exist to focus a collection.
Originally the work of Dr Tim Whitney who passed away in 1990, Colin Peachey and Brian Crookes then took over to edit the catalogue from the sixth edition and, today, the title has now passed on to the stable of publications issued by Stanley Gibbons.
This is one of those reference books where past editions can be almost as useful as the most recent and, in times where hobby budgets are tight, it's worth keeping an eye on Amazon UK for new and used copies of Collect British Postmarks at heavily discounted prices. At the time of writing a past edition is available for just 47p!
