150 Years of the Pillar Box

The trial was the brainchild of author and Post Office employee Anthony Trollope who also suggested the trial be extended to Guernsey in 1853, the same year as pillar boxes first entered use on mainland Britain. None of the original Jersey boxes survived but one example from the Guernsey trials is still in use located in Union Street, St Peter Port.
